I few Ideas I have seen are:

Welcome bulletin board : Look What's Blooming in 4th grade. On each flower write something fun they are going to be doing first quarter.

Fall Bulletin Board:
"Corny" Kids. Have a bunch of cornstalks and put a picture of each of your students on each stalk.

I just read about this: Students each trace their hand on colored paper. On each finger they write something about themselves. Then their hands get pasted to a stem and leaf and the colored hand is the blooming flower. I've never tried it,so I am not sure how well it works. But just a few ideas.
