Strict vs. Mean
By L.P.

Clip to ScrapBook
Being strict means setting down rules and consistantly enforcing them. The students know you mean business. Being mean is something different altogether. That would be like having consequences for breaking the rules that are totally out of proportion to the infraction. A teacher can also be mean by using sarcasm or otherwise belittling the student. Heather is right about being strict at the start. You can always become nicer but you can't start out "nice" and expect them to listen to you. They won't. They know you are nice and will take advantage, even the younger ones.

:o) I visited my classroom yesterday! It's huge, with plenty of storage...And it has a view of the Columbia River! Wow!
