Money count
By Trina

Clip to ScrapBook
I was a first year teacher this past year and I stole this idea from my teacher when I student-taught. It is called money count and you need pockets for ones, tens, hundreds, and maybe (if you get there) thousands. You
start on the first day like this:

DAY 1
$1.00
+$1.00 (this number is from what day it is) __________
$2.00
You would show this on a small wipe-off board above the pockets and then you would have the students help you count out the money. You would place 2 one dollar bills in the ones pocket.

Then:
DAY 2
$2.00 (this is from the day before's sum) +$2.00 (from what day it is) _________
$4.00
Continue this as long as you like. The students love to see how much "money" they can get to and it helps them to see (for example) when you get to ten dollars you have to take it to the next place value. I hope this helps and wasn't too confusing.
