Harry Potter theme
By Cheryl Babcock

Clip to ScrapBook
You could try using a wizard's hat and have your theme be something like...a "magical" year in third grade, or send an introductory letter to your students inviting them to (your school name) School of Wizardry. Your book
crates or centers could be labeled with titles of the books "Sorcerer's Stone", "Goblet of Fire" etc. You could have your students design their own wizards' wands (or you could do one for them if you wanted it in the hallway prior to the beginning of school) using wooden dowels, stars with glitter, and curling ribbons. If you group your children for activities, you could name your groups
after the same groups in Harry Potter (e.g. Gryffendor, Slytherin, etc.). This would be a fun theme to carry over the entire year. Teach them a P.E. game based on quidditch...make it up using soccer-type rules with your 'keeper' watching especially for the golden snitch (a small yellow playground ball). Sounds like a lot of fun could come from your theme. These were just a few ideas that popped into my head as I read your note. Good luck and have fun!
