I would talk to...
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I would talk to your principal from this past year and find out what usually happens in your district. When do the interviews ususually happen? For some school divisions it is not uncommon for them to not know exactly how
many positions they will have open, etc., First they deal with transfers within the district and then post openings. They normally should advertise and most interviews take place shortly after the postings close. Have any of these positions been advertised yet. Part of their problem seems that they are lacking organization on their end. They may also not know what enrollments are
for some of the schools and may be waiting on that information. It is much better for them to not hire right now and have to hire one or two people in the Fall than to hire too many right now and have to let go people in the Fall.

While driving is not the most fun, I used to drive 80 km a day (which I think would be close to your 60 mile distance). It is tiring at times, but then I didn't go in on weekends either. I stayed until about 6:00 most days to do all my work and was home about 7:00. I used the drive home to reflect and think about the day. I also had one of those mini-message recorders and could record notes to myself too.

Perhaps this is at least an alternative for a year - if you did get a position with one of the other districts then you'd get a year of experience and you could apply to your district for the following year and hope something turns up at that time.

Or sometimes it doesn't hurt to wait if you can afford it. Often jobs come up over the summer or even first thing in the Fall. There are less people looking at that time so less competition. And perhaps substitute teaching could also be an alternative.

I wish you luck on your search, I know it can be frustrating. Let us know how things go
