While driving is not the most fun, I used to drive 80 km a day (which I think would be close to your 60 mile distance). It is tiring at times, but then I didn't go in on weekends either. I stayed until about 6:00 most days to do all my work and was home about 7:00. I used the drive home to reflect and think about the day. I also had one of those mini-message recorders and could record notes to myself too. Perhaps this is at least an alternative for a year - if you did get a position with one of the other districts then you'd get a year of experience and you could apply to your district for the following year and hope something turns up at that time. Or sometimes it doesn't hurt to wait if you can afford it. Often jobs come up over the summer or even first thing in the Fall. There are less people looking at that time so less competition. And perhaps substitute teaching could also be an alternative. I wish you luck on your search, I know it can be frustrating. Let us know how things go
