cont. How Embarrassing!
By b. bowen

Clip to ScrapBook
When I heard my name called I went into shock. I walked to the stage and told the principal that I was never informed about the awards and that I had nothing. The only thing we could come up with on the spot was to recoginize
a student whose work had been entered in the VA State Board of Education Art Contest. And then I left, walked into the bathroom and cried! (probably as a result of PMS!) I have been a classroom teacher, but this was my first year as an art teacher. It is a thankless position. I teach seven different grade levels, plan projects that involve their classroom studies, and spend hours preparing.
But, the only time I seem to be acknowledged is when someone needs something "creative" done. Seldom do I walk through the halls that I am not asked to make something. So, I go back to my room, wave my magic wand, (because artwork is not time consuming and as an art teacher I could not possibly have anthing else to do)and presto! This happening was more than just embarassing, it was a slap in the face. Seldom do I have a chance to bragg about the wonderful work my students create (Pre-K to 5). This could have been our time to shine. And the best part...no one ever bother to apologize.
