I highly suggest any new teacher or veteran teacher read Harry Wong's THE FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL. (I discovered it after 25 years of teaching and found his set-up and procedural advice VERY helpful).He presents ideas on setting the climate in your classroom for a smooth year with all your students respecting you and each other. He suggests very practical procedures you can post in the room. It is given to all the new teachers as they enter our district and I hope they have time to use it. He also has a good website which will give you many pointers.
