I do!
By Susie

Clip to ScrapBook
In Southern California, many of the school districts use year-round education to help with school over-crowding. There are typically 4 "tracks" that rotate on a 12 week on, 4 week off cycle. The school year begins in July
and ends in June.

I didn't have a choice about if I wanted to teach in a traditional district or a year-round. As a kid, I went to traditional, and it just seemed like the way it should be. However, I now see the great benefits for teachers in year-round ed. Like a break every 3 months! After 3 months, I NEED the break! The ability to plan vacations during off-peak times. The

ability to sub at your own school during your off time (can't do that in a traditional setting). Free air conditioning in the summer!

For the kids, the benefits are the breaks and also that they don't have 2 1/2 months to lose some of their gain!

The drawback...I guess that there is usually only a week between school years. So, we rely upon our parent volunteers to help us prepare for the coming year.
