First Year Struggles
By Understand

Clip to ScrapBook
While I'm not a new teacher, I do understand your frustrations.

I don't know why new teacher's classes become the "dumping ground" for the most severe problems. It is unfair to you and the students and it should not
happen. I hope that you have taken sometime to write down the successes you've had this year. Looking back at the bright moments, no matter how few there may be, is important.

I also hope that you've found at least one colleague that has been supportive and understanding. If not, please seek one out or at least keep coming to this chatboard for comfort and consolation on those days

when it feels like you won't make it. One thing to keep in mind, if you've survived this year, just think how much you've learned and how well you'll do next year with a more balanced class and this year's experiences to build upon.

I hope your summer break is restful and relaxing. Teachers give so much of themselves it's important to take time and rejuvenate your body and your spirit.

Please know that what you do is important and appreciated, though it may not seem that way right now. Becoming a skillful, effective teacher is a process. Don't expect success immediately, but don't give it working toward it everyday.
