Balancing career/family
By Mindy

Clip to ScrapBook
Maureen,
Balancing a family and a career is no easy task. However, it definitely can be done. I began my college career when my youngest of three children was 1 year old. I went to college full time for 5 years to get
my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. It was very hard to juggle college, a husband, and three children. However, it was so rewarding to see my entire family cheering for me at graduation.
I just finished my first year teaching fourth grade. It was a great year! I found out how tough it really is to balance all of my own children's activities with the activities/work related
to my job. My family understands and respects me for what I do, and it all works out in the end.
I think it is great that you are thinking ahead to the challenges presented in teaching and raising your own family. However, countless teachers have done it! You can, too. Teaching is an extremely rewarding career--I wouldn't trade it for any other job in the world--except for the job of being a mother. Being a mother by far outshines being a teacher. Good luck!
