spelling

Hi,
I can understand your concerns. I am also not a great speller. I have come to believe that students need to see the process of learning. So when I don't know how to spell a word, I explain that to my group and proceed
to look up the word in a dictionary in front of them. This way they see what a good learner is supposed to be doing. Nobody, with the exception of the national spelling bee winners, can spell every word they need to write. So we all need to use the tools of learning - a dictionary, thesaurus, encyclopedia, Internet, etc. to help us. When we model this for our students it does
several positive things - it gives them an opportunity to see teachers as learners, it shows them the correct path to take when confronted with a learning problem, it lets them know that it is ok not to know everything!
