4th Grade - Language Arts/Writing By B. Guillory

This may be only one idea, however, I introduced the 3.8 essay last year and my students scored well on the LEAP. The 3.8 essay is a five paragraph essay with 3 ideas on a given topic within 8 sentences. (ie 3.8)
1st paragraph is One sentence (topic sentence stating your 3 ideas in it.
2nd paragraph has 2 sentences supporting 1st idea.
3rd paragraph has 2 sentences supporting 2nd idea.
4th paragraph has 2 sentences supporting 3rd idea.
5th paragraph states, "In conclusion..." and restates first paragraph.

It really took a great deal of practice but students really got it and loved writing the essays! Good luck!
