Homework Notebook
By RTH

Clip to ScrapBook
This is the letter I send to parents which explains my homework notebook. (I adapted this from a site I found on the Internet last summer, called MOOSE.)

Dear Parents,

Your second grade student will have homework
each evening, from Monday to Thursday, beginning today. Each day the children will take home a special notebook for the homework assignments.

The notebook includes five sections.
Section 1 - This Week's calendar. Please keep the calendar in the notebook all week, so that your child knows what assignments are due and what words to study for the spelling and reading tests.

Section 2 - Parent's Signature envelope. Anything from school that you need to sign, will be put in this envelope. After signing, return the papers to this envelope to be sent back to school.

Secion 3- Homework Envelope. Homework papers will be sent home in this envelope. Please make sure your child puts the homework back in this envelope when they have finished the work.

Section 4 - Practice Reader. Each week your child will have a book to practice reading at home. The book should be put back in this envelope everyday.

Section 5 - Completed Work. The work your child has completed in class will be sent home in this envelope. Please look over the work with your child and keep it at home. It does not need to be returned to school.

Please remind your child to keep all of the envelopes in the notebook. The notebook should be brought to school everyday. This system should help parents, students and the teacher to keep things organized this year.

(The envelopes that are referred to are actually clear, plastic sleeves which are already three hole punched. You can get these at office supply stores. I make labels on the computer for each of the sections of the notebook.
This system worked very well for me and the students this year. Parent commented that they appreciated the routine and the organization.)
