    Thank you for your replies.

I am planning on spelling words going home, reading books, and having children work on multiplication facts -- that the children can work on at home over a few days span that can be assessed in the classroom. I agree with the 10 minutes/grade -- that was also what I was taught in school.

My school doesn't have a policy "mandating" or "maximizing" the amount of homework. What some teachers do is send a note home every week with that weeks assignments and the days they are due or the days the students will be tested.

My next question is regarding sending home these weekly assignment sheets. How do you keep on schedule with those things? Say you schedule a Math test for Friday, but on Wednesday 6 children don't turn their homework and on the review on Thursday you see that they "aren't getting it". Do you stick with the schedule you handed out for the week? In my internship, we sent home agenda books with the assignments written in by the children for the next couple of days. At the school where I am going, teachers plan a week at a time and post it on Lesson Line. Just wondering.
