I think we all do this.
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I must confess that I have yelled at kids, and this coming class will be my 17th. Sometimes you just get aggravated, and this is how you vent. Of course, you don't feel any better about it afterwards. You feel like a first-class
heel.

I am not sure that kids take this personally. I think they just realize that you have simply had enough of whatever it is that they are doing. I did yell once at my kids this year, and this was because of they way they were acting when we were trying to walk down the hallway. I will not go into detail. I will just say that there were numerous problems that day.

The kids actually stopped what they were doing and got quiet.

I think that what we have to guard against when we yell is the kids' becoming accustomed to it. It's like the kids thinking: Okay, she asked me to do something. I'm not going to do it yet. Now she's talking a bit louder to me. I guess I'm going to have to do it soon. Now she's shouting at me. I guess I'd better listen now.
