Keyboarding for kids
By Theresa

Clip to ScrapBook
We have been using Ultrakey on our MACS for several years. I have been opposed to it primarily because the program is not child friendly. Then, after some research, I found that many experts believe that pinky reach is
not developed until middle school. The kids get very frustrated with typing. They don't carry the skills over to games or any other programs. The program doesn't differentiate which finger hit which key and poor habits are being formed. I personally feel that keyboarding is better if it is taught by a teacher and not a program, but as I said before, my school system does not agree and
that is why I am looking at other programs. There was a very interesting article about the pros and cons of keyboarding a couple weeks ago on www.education-world.com. I hope this helps.
