I have had the same problem in my grade six class. Even calling parents didn't seem to help. As a last attempt I wrote a note to the student asking him to pick a date the work would be done by and sign it. This eventually turned into a student-teacher contract where the student lives up to his homework responsibilities and I agree not to involve the parents. It isn't perfect but it has helped a bad situation become better. I think at this age they are thrilled with the power of having responsibility of their own. Karen
