Response to your dilemma!
By Brian LaSusa

Clip to ScrapBook
Hey Jessica!
This is my 7th year teaching and my 5th year teaching 5th grade! If you asked me if I would ever teach a grade that high back when I got out of college..I would have said you were crazy..no way! I have
taught 3rd for a year, fourth for a year and 5th for five..and I love 5th grade! However, the problems/issues are much different when talking behavior and social scene.

Understand that you made it through your education program because you worked at it, you deserve it and you love kids...the most important thing! My advice is accept the bad days..we are all going to have them

each year that we teach...we can't be perfect. However, as I tell my kids..even on those really bad days..you grow personally by being able to take something positive from EVERY experience...you know, the "Glass is half full, partly sunny theory" Just love your kids and show them that you care by enjoying yourself. And honestly, do something crazy once in a while. Mess up on purpose..show them that you are human! I mean do something wild to get their attention..not dangerous! Most of all enjoy them and see what you can learn and how much you can grow until the end of the year! Hang in there..sometimes just getting to the end of the year is reason to think positively! It will get better...every cloud has that "silver lining"...go find it! Good luck! Brian :-)
