Ideas By Helen

Got to Vent Board and check out the replies to Mellisa's "Just Plain Wornout" I saw some good ideas there. You could also do measurement( quarts, gallons etc or nonstandard) Use a big tub and fill with water outside. Have children first estimate how many small containers of water it will take to fill their larger container, then let them measure. My first graders have loved this on a hot day. This is also a good way to do "Sink and Float" or to review it. Make homemade icecream in ziplock bags as your science experiment for the day. Take a listening walk over your | | campus and let children record what they hear...No one is allowed to talk during the walk...When you get back to the room, discuss and write about what they heard or thought they heard. Take a shape walk through your campus and then in the classroom make drawings of geometric shapes in your environment. Count the steps between points and record on a map. Hope some of these give you some ideas!
