Word families
By Judy

Clip to ScrapBook
I would suggest purchasing Month by Month Phonics for your grade level. They have wonderful "making words" activities. Another resource is Making Words.Children manipulate letter cards to make words.
Example: Give students the following letter cards: a k e b s r h
We're going to talk about the word family "ake"
Put the letters that make that sound in front of you. Add b in front of ake. What word do you have?
Remove b and put r in its place. What word do you have? Can put b in front of rake and so on. Discuss how words are alike. "ake"
IN the Making Words book there is a page for making words that can be taken home.
