Traveling animals

How about a mouse? There are tons of books and activites and the idea of it fitting into a backpack or pocket to travel is appealing. If the reading level with the kids gets higher you can tie in the Magic Treehouse series with Peanut the Mouse who travels with Jack and Annie, or Stuart Little, The Mouse and the Motorcycle or Ben and Me. I can also think of lots and lots of picture books. What do you think?
