ADHD
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
I fully agree with you Sharon. I took so much grief from people over the years for medicating my daughter. They think I just said "Opps, she's too hyper let's find a way to calm her down with medication." We as a family went
to counceling for over 6 weeks, before we started any medication. But what everyone fails to see is we also had to incorporate or modify our discipling and listen to our daughter verbally and in her actions.Just because we started the medication, we didn't stop there; we continued to see her physcologist. It was every week, then every two ,then once a month and now we go when she feels
the need to talk to him. You have to know your children, their actions always speak louder.
I do however have a problem with people, teachers included, who say that a child is too hyper he must be ADHD! What about the other children, the ones who may be ADD! They aren't hyper... but they may be having problems sorting out the information that is taught to them on a daily basis. Are our teachers and parents recognizing this also? These children may be shy, afraid to answer because of low self esteem, they feel they probably have the wrong answer, so they don't participate as often. With ADD and ADHD you have to treat as well as medicate. Self esteem is fragile for most people, it is brittle for ADD and ADHD! They need constant reassurance and a daily pat on the back (who doesn't!)It's not hard to do and the results are wonderful.
