Long Days
By Rob

Clip to ScrapBook
Here in the Central Valley of California my school has a very long day. Students go from 8:30 to 3:28pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. On Wednesdays we go from 8:30 am until 1:10pm. Teachers must be at school by
8:15 am every day and can not leave before 3:45pm (Or later if meetings) each day. Wednesday Afternoons are our designated prep times. Our only duty free time during our school day is lunch for 40minutes. We do our own yard duty at recess and our own P.E. We are "encouraged" to only one take 10-15 minutes recess each day and keep P.E. to the standard of 200 minutes every 2 weeks.

I

like the lump prep time, I can get a lot of planning done during the 2 1/2 hrs. But my students get very tired by about 2:30pm and begin to check out, especially during our hot summer months (we are year round) when temperatures get into the 100's. I would take a shorter prep time for a shorter day any time because of this.
