time, temperature and measurement
By Lorelei

Clip to ScrapBook
I just got done teaching a unit on time, temperature and measurement. Measurement was the hardest thing to teach. I had the students measure things around the room. We even went outside and measured the playground equipment
in both the standard and metric system. My children really liked the metric system. We used this formula (that i learned in college chemistry) to help us convert from one measurement to the next
KM HM Dm(dekameter) M dm cm mm
For each unit we changed the main unit. For example if we were measuring in Liters we would change the "m's" to "L" This was a great visual for those
who didn't understand how to do the actual multiplying by tens. They eventually understood that each time you moved right you were actually multiplying by 10 and each time you moved left you were dividing by ten.
I have more ideas if you would like to email me.
Hope I helped
