Wonderful advice. I would add, read to your son as often as you can. Discuss what you have read. Help him see the connection between what is happening now in the book and what may happen next. Teach him to predict. This kind of attention to text should translate to his own reading - eventually. Because of his age you can choose from a huge variety of books to read to your son. Since Harry Potter is so popular right now, it would be a good choice if you haven't already read it to him. There's a lot going on in these stories to talk about and plenty to predict.

How lucky your son is to have such a dedicated mom.
