I am teaching the Shurley method to my 7th graders this year. I absolutely love it!!! I have had students who have come up to me and said, "I never really 'got it' before, but this way is a lot easier and I am finally 'getting| it'" This is what it is all about for me...reaching those students who find learning grammar difficult. Their confidence levels are up....they refer to their jingles during tests, and I love how they use their book as a reference tool. Some of my students have asked me if they can take their book with them at the end of the year. I also like how the Shurley method teaches writing. | |
My students feared writing a paragraph at the beginning of 7th grade...now most of them can write a 5 paragraph Expository essay fairly well. The Shurley method makes writing easier by teaching the students one step at a time. This is by far the best way I've seen yet to teach grammar and writing.
