sharing more worries

I appreciate all the insightful responses. As a team, we have decided to keep her in the regular ed. class for the time being, noting our concerns, stating our actions and the results of those actions and continue to work
closely with her and her family.( Mainly because the year is ending and the process would take more time than is left in the school year. Next year, her new teacher will recieve all the data and most likely she will be referred for testing.)But, I want to share another concern about this. As I stated, the child at question is under the care of a licensed therapist and they are also in
group counseling as a family. Is any of what we may do in testing and "identifying" this child going to be detrimental to that process? Like I said, her problems are in no way academic, but emotional. She has seen our own guidance counselor too, and that has concerned me as well. Our counselor is a wonderful person and I have the utmost respect for her...but she doesn't know what is being done in the privacy of the therapist sessions. I don't want the school to be doing something that might be considered contradictory to her licensed, trained therapist. As a teacher, I have tried my best to treat her with the care she needs and deserves. I know her special needs and am understanding of them. I try to help her to overcome and understand them without delving into anything that might get in the way of her treatment. For example, she was afraid of policeman and we have a DARE/Safety officer who visits often. We have overcome that
by learning about policemen and what they do.. talking to our officer, sitting in the front seat of his car and even letting her turn on the lights. She is no longer afraid of at least that particular policeman. I want to do what is best for her so she can be a successful student and learner. I am just unsure that putting her in a special class is right for this particular child!
