Hi, I am 23 years old and have been in remission from Leukemia for almost 18 years. First, I just wanted to send my best wishes to your student. There is a book I had while I was in the hospital that I still have. I think it was called "A Book About Me." It had anything and everything to do with me, such as, my favorite foods to how many windows there are in my house, to how many steps it is to my mailbox, and there are even places for signatures from all the doctor's and nurses. It is really cute and it somthing fun to keep them busy with that they can cherish for years. If you can't find the book or one similar, your class could make your own. Best of Luck!!
