In addition to what Leslie said, it may be a good idea to talk with the boy. Make sure he understands why destroying the banner was "bad". He needs to know this so that he won't do it again. If he doesn't understand the reason why destroying the banner was wrong then it is more likely that he will do something similar in the future.
