ADHD
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I'm with you. I do think in many cases we are seeing overdiagnosing. It's a bit of an easy way out and takes all the ownership of the problems out of the parents hands.

There are of course some legitimate kids who have
attention difficulties that are outside the realm of what I would call typical hyperactivity. I've had 3 kids in the past 8 years I would have labelled as ADHD because of their behaviours. One actually was labelled this and was on medication.

I have has students whose family life is very unorganized, no rules, etc., and these kids do have attention difficulties. But I believe that

a lot of their difficulties arise from their home environment rather than something internal causing it.

Of course I'm not a doctor so I could be wrong, but I have also seen a move away from diagnosing this as often at least in my area.
