Grocery Store
By Siobhain McMackin

Clip to ScrapBook
I have just set up a store. I asked the students to bring in containers such as empty cereal boxes, cans, pop bottles (plastic!) and egg cartons. I then priced the items in small amounts and built shelves on top of tables with blocks. I used a puppet theatre as the check out counter with a fake cash register. I borrowed mini grocery carts from a local grocery store. The students take turns in this centre and they must fill in a grocery list with the items and the price. They then take the list and their groceries to the checkout where the shopkeeper helps add them up (Gr. 1/2). They pay with fake money and off they go and switch roles. I have 5 people in the centre at once. They simply love it! Good luck!!
