cindy, I usually have the parents sign papers that are not passing or if the grade is unusually low for that particular student. The students have to bring them back the next day and I store them in the file cabinet, in the students folder. Then when the parents aren't pleased with their report card grades, I have a conference with them and show them the papers they signed. This way you have proof to back up your grades and their signatures on papers (they've seen them). It sure has cut down on unhappy and surprised parents.
