Musical Thematic Units

We are currently in the process of developing musical thematic units and it is very hard to find three or more excellent songs around which to base musical concepts. Personally, I think a teacher is much better off using a single song and developing activities cross-curriculum. I become much more excited by a single song and what I can do with it than I do by several songs we try to develop together; I always end up feeling as though some song is weak.
