Teaching split 4/5 class
By Jo Ann Baxley

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been doing this, but we call it a combo class. I do teach each grade as a separate entity most of the time. We use Everyday Math, Harcourt Brace for reading and Houghton Mifflin Social Studies and Science. It is hard work. I think of it as juggling balls in the air. First, you have to establish your management system. That is really hard to describe, but I start with writing a time schedule and then sticking with it. Reading is first and then math and then S.S. and Science. I like teaching all of these subjects so sometimes I have to give up something. Managing time is the toughest. Some days it seems that there is constant interference. What specifically do you want to know?
