A bad situation gone worse...
By Josie

Clip to ScrapBook
Things at our school have gotten unbearable. A wonderful friend/super colleuge was told last wed. after a staff collaborating meeting, "You are fired. Your contract will not be renewed next year." She just walked into her
room and said this. Of course my friend was heart-broken. When she inquired why, all that was said was, "You have had too many run in's with parents and if you want to know more, talk to the superinetendent." and walked out. The principal conventiently left for two weeks on a conference trip!!! I feel so bad for this girl. She is a second year teacher with the WORST class ever!! They gave
her all the behavior students in the grade because the more experienced teachers didn't want to deal with them. I sorted through a list of my friend's documentation on one student, and it's in a box, there is so much of it. Included with documentation of the student is every time she went to the principal begging for help/suggestions and nothing happened. One student of my friend is a brat, to say the least. One day, he started throwing a temper tantrum and kicking her brand new filing cabinates (they look horrible now). When she sent him with an Aid to time out (because she got in trouble for taking him to time out earlier in the year for leaving an aid in the room (non certfified staff, same problem you had), they sent the student and the aid back!!!! HOW ARE THE OTHER STUDENTS SUPPOSED TO LEARN AND SHE SUPPOSED TO TEACH WITH THIS MONSTER CHILD KICKIGN THE FILING CABINATE??? This was during the SAT-9 testing, of all things!! My friend also has some teacher's children in her class, and they are horribly behaved kids, so of course those teachers were miffed everytime they got in trouble! They set up this teacher to fail from the very start, and there isn't a lot she can do since she isn't tenured!!! The principal picked on her for every little thing. I probably would have been fired, too, if they didn't need a sped teacher for this horribly behaved student, too. Last week, my husband who lives 300 miles away working, had to have emergency surgery for a rupturing appendix. I didn't leave school to be with him, however, I was up very late making sure he came out of surgery okay, ect. I woke up a bit late and didn't have time to do my hair, which is long and curly, so I just left it down, which I have NEVER done before. It doesn't look bad that way, but when I walked in the door, the principal peered over her coffee cup and said, "My, my...we're looking pretty tough today." in just this rotten condesending voice. I was so pissed!!! I still was dressed very nice, had make up on, ect. Everyone else told me I look great with my hair down, and should wear it that way more often. I couldn't help it, but I said, "My husband had emergency surgery last night. Considering that fact, your lucky I am even here today." and walked away.

I hate this place so bad. I can't wait for the 28 days for the end of the year. I don't care if I don't get a teaching job elsewhere, even though I still love teaching and will miss my students horribly! I can't work in an environment where kissing up is the only way to succeed. As for my friend, I looked up in our board policy where it says, "No employee shall be fired, except for gross neglagence or immoral conduct, without giving them the most support possible." I told her to file a greivence and sue the pants of this place.

My state needs stronger unions to deal with rotten principals like this!!! This is deplorable!
