principals
By Jill Loveridge

Clip to ScrapBook
My heart goes out to you. I am in a similar situation. For some reason, the principal doesn't like me. He will call me into his office for anything that bugs him about me. He didn't like my sub plans one day. He told
me that I set up the sub to fail. Did he explain to me HOW he wanted my sub plans to look? No. And when I had needed a sub a few weeks later, I asked him to look over my sub plans "just to be sure" and he didn't have time.

One time he called me in with my union rep because I left the class unsupervised. I actually left a parent volunteer in class with my students while I ran to

the library to get a video tape. He considered that unsupervised. What I didn't realize at the time (I didn't learn this in grad school) is that supervision means certified staff. All he had to do was explain that to me instead of making a big issue about it.

I now document every circumstance by sending myself an email detailing the event. I am careful not to include judgments or emotions. Just the facts. I only meet with him when I have my union rep or the 7th grade team leader with me because he treats me VERY differently when they are present.

I have started looking for jobs in other districts. I am hoping that he doesn't like me enough that he will write a letter of recommendation just to get rid of me! I hate to leave the school though because the staff is so wonderful.

Hang in there!
