lights and looks
By Lisa

Clip to ScrapBook
Sherrie,
I teach 7th grade, a grade level known for talking and noise. Ususally I can get their attention by leaning back (wherever I am standing in the classroom), crossing my arms and waiting. Someone ususally catches on very quickly and hushes the others.
The other thing I do is just turn off the lights.
That one gets them everytime.
They also know that anything we don't have time to do in class, becasue their are talking or fooling around, will end up as homework and they certainly don't want that.
I have told them that while they are in our classroom, they are on MY time and should they choose to waste it, I will be happy to use THEIR time (recess, after school, etc.) They understand that concept very well.
Good Luck
