I agree with Michelle. You're handling it the right way. Sometimes you get a group like this. Requiring good behavior in centers and at playtime is part of what every good primary teacher should be doing. We not only
teach them to read and write, but also to function in the world. That includes treating materials with respect. Even students who would not act so carelessly at home seem to forget their manners when playing with things that aren't their own.

My school has a play money system and a little store where the kids can spend their "reward" money for candy and other treats. When someone in

our class blatently causes some form of damage - purposely kicking a ball onto the roof, etc. - they must pay me back with the play money they have earned. They hate this because it means they won't be able to buy treats at the school store. You could probably find a similar way of making the children "pay" for what they damage. In real life they would have to replace broken property, so this is a natural consequence type of punishment.
