Wild Child
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
This child might really benefit from an adult buddy since the student isn't really working. Do you have a friend teacher who would be willing to work with this child? Maybe he could help out before school or at the end
of the day like I mentioned earlier. He sounds like he really needs adult attention. I know you are struggling and are trying everything under the sun. Hang in there.

Another idea would be to give him some responsibility by having a class pet. This child could be in charge of taking care of it. Hermit crabs are very inexpensive and you don't have to clean the cage. They are fun

to watch and this child might feel important. The class can write about the animals and you can read the Eric Carle book "A House for Hermit Crab". Let the child know before hand that he will be responsible for them, but if he can't handle what is expected of him in the classroom, someone else will have to do the job. Have him check books out of the library to learn how to take care of them and let him share what he learned with the class. It's worth a try and if it doesn't work, hermit crabs aren't very expensive. Just make sure you get the land crabs--you don't want saltwater crabs unless you want to make a saltwater tank and change the water every 2 weeks! Let me know how it goes.
