Grandparents Day
By KT

Clip to ScrapBook
We have had a "Special Person" day at our school for years that started out just for grandparents. We extended it to any special people for those who were unable to have grandparents attend. Kids who don't have a guest may
"share" a guest or bring a picture to share. I send a note home to ask guests to bring something special they might like to share representing a hobby or occupation. I also ask them to tell us something they are currently learning because we continue to learn all through our lives. I usually share something from my grandmother ( a doll quilt she made me ). I always read aloud a book about
grandparents of which there are many. A favorite is Grandma Gets Grumpy by Anna G. Hines. Kids and guests alike enjoy the story. I have 3rd grade so I have the kids introduce their guest (we practice ahead) and then I have the kids and guests get into groups and interview the guests. How did you get to school? What was your favorite subject? What chores did you do as a child? What was your favorite toy? etc. I also have my kids read to them depending on our time frame. It is always an enjoyable visit. I also read grandparent books to the kids before the visit and have them available for them to look at in class. Have fun!
