tortillas-ask an expert! By ck

I don't know what your ethnical makeup is within your class/school, but I would consider asking in an experienced tortilla maker! Perhaps some of your parents (or other staff) have more experince in making totillas than| you do. When my 6th grader did a unit on China, he asked his brother to do a food demonstration for the class. He'd worked for over 2 years in a chinese restaurant and was quite knowledgeable and esperienced for a 19 yr old! It was a big hit! If you choose to do this yourself, be sure to test things out beforehand. Try the recipe at home (or better yet, under actual conditions - do | | it in the classroom after school). Be sure to keep in mind such things as blowing fuses (I did making pancakes with 5 year olds!), placement of outlets, water access, etc.If you can't "make" tortillas, purchase them from the store and let the kids put together a tortilla with their favorite "stuffings". Also keep in mind any health regulations that the school may require you to follow. (Our school requires using only store made/wrapped products - no home baked goods allowed.) If you end up limited to just store bought tortillas without any "fixens" because of health rules, warm them up (microwave or electric fry pan) spread butter or margarine on them, sprinkle with lots of cinnamon sugar, roll them up and enjoy! Es muy bueno.
