    Quiet a Must
    By Rebecca

    Clip to ScrapBook
I too have started from Day 1 and have my students well-trained. Parents are not allowed in the rooms when school is beginning. I will return calls at planning times or talk to them after school.

I have a Workshop Board (3rd) and they know that they are suppose to get busy. My principal would call them on it (or me too if I let them get loud) during announcements---All heads down, lights out and Listen! At my school, these students need structure because most don't get it at home! My kids learned this the first week!

You might want to start Morning Work (or Workshop) with a reminder of "Quiet Time" on the board until they get used to it. My students know that they get to visit the "Discovery Table", have free drawing time, etc. so they want to get their work done! If you are interested in the activities that I do in Workshop, I'll be happy to share!
