My class has a feast every year. We do it the Friday before we get out for Thanksgiving. Last year, a couple of moms baked chicken legs. What a hit! Every parent who wanted to help was responsible for bringing something--corn, dressing, cranberry sauce, dessert (cookies), plates, drinks, napkins, silverware, etc. I've also had ham and turkey. My kids love it, plus the parents are eating with us. There is never any food left over and my kids all have a great Thanksgiving feast with families at home, too. I really play it up. We make placemats and Pilgrim hats. Oh, I teach 2nd grade. We cover our desks that are arranged in tables with butcher paper and decorate our space the whole week before. We of course talk about manners and trying everything on our plate. I emphasize that we never say UGH! I learned that after my first year! My room mother always makes all the calls and organizes it. Of course, I send out a letter she has prepared to let all the parents in the class know what we are doing. Then they can call her if they want to come and help. I hope your feast is a great success!
