Okay...first of all I totally agree and if I were in your shoes I too would be really pissed off...

so dont feel bad...vent girl vent!!!!

I HATE snotty nose secretaries that have an attitude...I had one at my school first year and she braught me to tears...

It was the first time I met her...long story short I arrived to my new school...had just moved 5000 miles away from home...had NOTHING..no furniture..no supplies...NOTHING...

I came to see my classroom...(had only a phone interview so hadnt seen it) only to find outside portables...the kicker is...I opened my door...to this dust filled cobweb room...with cockroaches..mice...the works...I must have found 50 spiders in ONE closet. I had NO garbage bags and so I figured I needed to start cleaning up. I went to the office (already totally frazzled mind you) and met the secretary. Hi...where can I get some garbage bags...

YOU KNOW WHAT SHE TOLD ME... at your house!!!!

I had no car...had just taken the BUS 45 minutes to the school..and didnt even have a garbage can at home yet let alone garbage bags...

    I studdered...(is that how you spell that..anyway)

and felt my face get red...I almost flew home right then and there... just walked out...

and I faught back the tears and said...

I just took a bus...I have NO garbage at home let alone bags...is there ANY I can borrow at least...

she saw the tears...waited about 3 minutes and finally gave me one...ONE!!!!!

Needless to say I had a rough start! Since then I have realized that this woman has a tough love kind of thing...instead of being rude to her I walked in the next day with a BOX of bags and said...hey...no worries..I braught my own...

    she laughed...SHE NEVER SMILES...

now she is like my buddy...

my point...(lost is that long story)

keep your head up. Try asking the kids to talk about what they want to learn...or maybe think about altering the style...if you use alot of book stuff try hands on or something...

I cant give good advice bc I only teach 2nd and its a totally DIFFERENT ball game. I really have a LOT of respect for those of you that teach the upper grades. I know that those are some hard years. The one good thing to think about it...

while the kids may have a tough shell...if you find stuff that interests them and get through to them you will really make a strong impact...

as far as the secretary...I think I would have said" hey Im new...cut me some slack" but then again I probably would have gotten fired...

    hee hee...

good luck sounds like a tough situation...remember why you got in this profession...

    OH...(sorry)

for the father in law (who I could really smack)

remind him that with out teachers there would be no other professions...like those great lawyers, doctors, and business people...

    Good luck againQ!!!
