Describe one character.... Make a prediction of what will happen in the next chapter... Write a story summary (at end of book) I really leave the response journal entries up to the kids. Most of them end up writing summaries of their reading and doing predictions. I do model all of the prompts for responses, then let them write about whichever they feel fit their reading. I guide them more during book clubs and less during independent reading. I hope this helps.
