Jersey City is still under state control, as are many other districts in NJ. This mean that they are all undergoing school wide reform and have some type of urban initiative program in effect. You should find some info about some of these programs, such as Success for All and Little Red Schoolhouse (there are others, too, but the names escape me at the moment). Some other areas you might look into are Haledon, East Orange, Irvington, and Harrison. These are all very urban districts, with a great deal of diversity among the student population. They are not easy places to work in, but if you are looking for an urban district, these fit. Definately look in the Star-Ledger, I do believe it is available online. I would also look into making sure you have the appropriate certification. As far as I know, PA teaching certificates are not directly transferrable to NJ. Good luck!
