    A Tangible Reminder, Maybe?

    Hi New 5th Grade Teacher

I was very glad to hear that you feel better!

I sure like the list that Cathy-Dee suggested.
I think one can apply that technique in one's personal life as well. I sure hope that you take the time to make one. I think she suggested that to me around this time last year. But I have to admit I didn't do it. (Sorry Cathy-Dee) I was far too immersed in the negativity at the time. But I now apply it in my personal life, and find it is quite helpful.

I realize how challenging it is to focus your attention on what is positive when you have several students hell bent on turning your classroom upside down (or so it must seem). Perhaps you might get something that is tangible that will help remind you to look for the good. For example, you could draw a picture of a glass half full, which emphasizes what's IN the cup and not what's missing. You could place it near the classroom's clock, since this is something you probably look at quite often, especially during those times you can't wait for the end of the day!
AND those are the times you really need to be looking for the good.

I have a cute, small glass container that is filled with seeds by my nightstand. The seeds in the jar remind me to think "good" thoughts as I go to sleep. It works for me. Another thing I do is when I journal in the mornings, I draw a cup that is half full. Then I write all the good things I have in my life in the section that is filled in. I always end up writing on the outside of the glass because I have so much to be thankful for. I'm a strong visual learner, so I guess that's why I like this technique.

Anyway, I am so glad that you reached out to others on this board. Moreover, I'm SO GLAD that you feel better. Make that list! And keep your chin up. You are going to see this through and be the better for it! Cultivate be a "good finer." Every now and then let us know what good is taking place in your classroom, okay. Be looking for your posts.

    Keep us posted

    Sincerely, G.M.
