Hi Calvin
I went to an inservice called How to Successfully Teach Math Facts & Stragegies to All Students
and they gave you a formula to plug into that the kids could learn and help them to do the math story problems here's an example for addition

start + gain = end
James had only 14 cookies left in the cookie jar. He bought some more. Now he has 72 cookies. How many did he buy?

14 + ? = 72
start + gain = end

the kids can plug in the known numbers to their formula and be able to figure out the problem.

Let me know if you'd like more information.
