So they would come to me when they were ready for multipying by 2s (in random order 30 seconds or less). Then they had to learn dividing by 2 and answer in random order in 30 seconds or less. After they had mastered multipying and dividing by 2s through 5s, we had 20 mixed up facts (the hardest ones) in multiplication, then division before working on 6s through 9s; then 20 mixed up facts again. Each mastery was rewarded with class coupons to be spent for various things plus their name on a bulletin board chart. One way they liked to practice was with Wrap-Ups, a neat tool that each student can practice individually. Look for them wherever math activities are sold.
