Have you thought about partial departmentalization? In our school we have only 2 sections of 4th grade this year. Thus we are trying an experiment of changing for Social Studies and Science only. That doesn't mean that we do not integrate these subjects into our other subjetcs at times. I have found this to be terrific. The kids love seeing a different face every other day, and I have one less subject to prep. This means I can spend more time making that one subject interesting. Also, in the past we found these subjects to always be placed on the back burner. Now much more curriculum is covered due to the set schedule we have for these subjects. I will miss this next year when we have 3 sections again.
